Mechanical Restraints

Meets the national competency CPPSEC3015A Restrain Persons Using Handcuffs.

Handcuffs are a mechanical use of force, and therefore it is highly important that they are applied correctly and safely to minimize injury to both the subject and the officer.

During our training, you will learn:

  • the importance of gaining compliance prior to deploying mechanical restraints;
  • team tactics;
  • the impact of positional asphyxia in regards to mechanical restraints;
  • speed cuffing techniques; and
  • care and maintenance of mechanical restraints.

Tactical Conflict Solutions delivers training in the following types of mechanical restraints:

  • steel handcuffs (link, hinged and rigid);
  • Flexi Cuffs; and
  • body belts and hobbles.
